How to: Do I really need a grinder?

If you want to make projects that you can be proud of the the answer is Yes. Inaccurate cuts are a waste of glass and a grinder will help you get more from each piece of glass. Your pieces will fit together better and give your work a more professional finish. This applies to both Stained Glass work and Fusing. Copper foil adheres much better to a ground glass edge which has been roughened by the grinder. There is a large variety of special bits available to help you get more from your glass, eg glass drilling and jewellery making to name just two.

So which grinder?

That will depend on what you need it for? In jewellery making a small work surface will suffice, but if you get "hooked" on glass you may need a bigger surface. For Leadlight, Stained Glass and Fusing work a bigger surface will work better for you. The Glastar Superstar 2 has a work surface area of 23cm by 20cm which is an ideal size. This grinder will give many years of trouble-free service.
